The 1947 Chenin Blanc, Kaapzicht, Stellenbosch
Add to favouritesThe 1947 Chenin Blanc is from old bush vines planted by Danie Jnr’s great grandfather in 1947; making it the second oldest Chenin block in the country. From 72 year old vines, the aromatics are complex and spicy with lovely nuances of wet straw, dusty white citrus, honied yellow peaches, fynbos and sweet pineapple confit.
There is such focused depth, full-bodied texture and complexity with nuances of tangerine peel, lychee concentrate and a honied bonbon intensity.
Kaapzicht’s The 1947 Chenin Blanc is one of South Africa’s greatest expressions of Chenin Blanc, with only 900 bottles released of this old vine rare gem. The vineyard from which it hails was planted in 1947, making it the second oldest Chenin vineyard in South Africa. Notes of orange zest, quince, flint and oyster shell – the youthful flavour profile is elegant, yet very broad and powerful. Seamless fruit flows onto the palate that also offers a mineral, saline grip to finish. Certainly a Chenin that will develop added nauances with a year or two of additional bottle maturation.
