Fresh citrus and orchard fruit aromas and flavours, with a minerally element adding vivacity. Silky and precise, showing good lift but a bit of heat in the mid-palate. It is balanced and persistent with plenty of lively acidity.
Complex, powerful red berry, morello cherry nose integrated with hints of vanilla, cocoa and spice. On the palate, there is a velvety softness with great depth of ripe, rich blackberry and spicy fruit. Soft tannins, outstanding nobility, great structure with a harmonic balanced development climax in an elegant, full and very persistent finish.
The initial citrus aromas are offset by the richness of vanilla from the oak. The wine is still fresh, however, with a creamy mouthfeel and wonderful texture. There is a hint of orange oils on the finish and a note of butterscotch.
El Botijo is a limited production, micro wine straight from a garage in Valdejalon (North East Spain) where Fernando Mora and Mario Lopez make wines with the absolute minimum of intervention. It’s named after the ancient clay drinking water container – still used by growers today – cooling water in Spain’s hot, dry climate.
A vivid ruby red with aromatic notes of redcurrant and red cherries against a herby Mediterranean background. It is a fresh, elegant, silky wine with light well-balanced oaky tones, reflecting all the simplicity and ingenuity of its namesake.
