Greenhough River Garden Sauvignon Blanc
Add to favouritesWander through a block of Sauvignon Blanc vines in the days before harvest and taste the berries from either side of the row, within the shaded areas of the canopy and from the most exposed, golden clusters. The spectrum of fruit flavours and aromas which define the bright, outgoing character of this variety are all there, loud and clear. Absolutely my favourite grape to eat from the vine says the winemaker Andrew Greenhough!
Greenhough, Nelson Sauvignon Blanc is a classic ‘top of the south’ style with focus on ‘crunchy’ fresh fruit and fragrance. The Hope Vineyard Sauvignon is an alternative style which explores the complexity and textural richness that comes from skin contact and wild fermentation in barrel
Waimea means River Garden in Maori.
A classic ‘top of the south’ style, bright-fruited and “crunchy” in spirit. Vibrantly and fresh, this sauvignon blanc offers tangy citrus, fleshy stone-fruit and tropical flavours over subtle herbs and mineral notes. The excellent 2019 vintage has provided lovely depth of flavour.
‘OK, I may not be the biggest fan of New Zealand sauvignon blanc, which makes up the vast majority of the country’s production, but you can’t say it doesn’t deliver… try Tanners’ £12.95 Greenhough River Garden Sauvignon Blanc, the stablemate of the pinot noir in today’s recommendations, to appreciate the difference that paying a bit more can make.’ Fiona Beckett, The Guardian, 19th March 2021
